630 Artists Name * Martina Köppel-Yang is an independent scholar and curator with a PhD in East Asian Art History from the University of Heidelberg. She has been involved in contemporary Chinese art since the mid-1980s when she studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. In addition to curating and co-curating exhibitions, she has written extensively on the subject of contemporary Chinese art, most notably Semiotic Warfare – The Chinese Avant-garde 1979-1989 – a Semiotic Analysis, Hong Kong, 2003.
