DSL Magazine: Issue 13
This issue aims to be a cathartic journey driven by artworks from dslcollection. As we head towards the end of a crisis that has affected all of us, we should look back at the artworks that we have previously experienced; since it is also the essence of a collection founded by the passion and conviction of its collectors. After all, it is the choices that they make, guided by desire that will ultimately bring us back to the bosom of the living. Art transmits the living in a biological, sensory relationship. The living passes through art, be it physical or digital. The concept of digital in the art world (from its institutions such as museums to its market forces such as galleries and auction houses) has been creating quite a stir lately. The question is not whether one is better than the other. Advances in technology have never annihilated old methods. They often both end up intertwining and complementing each other. There's still a lot to do. It's not as much to write about. Of late, the concept of transmission keeps coming to mind; that is, transmission of the virus, of course. The one that reminded us of our vulnerability, that we are very much mortal beings. Fundamentals that Westerners tend to avoid admitting. The transmission of art is a vector of sensation and exploration that can also affect our flesh and even beyond. These senses can become porous without making us vulnerable. Indeed, art tends to make us stronger. The experience of art is a personal journey and collection of senses. Often intangible, mentally constructed. But here the merit of a thoughtful, dedicated collection is that it physically holds a coherence, an undeniable power that transcribes the personality of its founders. Digital tools enable the collection to be shared with as many people as possible around the world. As we know, the Covid effect has accelerated, multiplied and further reinforced the dissemination of art online. For example, the Google Arts & Culture platform, which initially served as a digital relay for museums and historic sites, has faced competition from legitimate initiatives among its own entities. The strongest galleries and fairs have obviously evolved by developing online viewing rooms and live interviews that are available to anyone, at any time. Innovation is a continuous journey. 3
