DSL Magazine: Issue 13
What is actually “real” in art when it relies so much on the senses? Senses that are elusive and intimate. Can the ephemeral be readily transmitted via a digital tool, whether it is a simple accompanying device or an immersive vector? We are dealing with the perennial question of perception. All perception exists by the mere fact of being. It is primary to the reality of the object-thing and the subject-object. So what will happen to the aura conveyed by art? Will it also be increased or will it be misguided? A reality is a fact that is lived and felt. Augmented reality creates the “sensational”, pushing the boundaries of all our senses. Virtual reality draws the being to another dimension. Free will remains a foundation in this practice and soon in the game of art. Here, the curated selection of artworks from dslcollection runs along the red thread of “turning point”. The historical turning point, beyond a phenomenon of society, refers to the civilizational upheaval and to that of our condition as human beings linked to Nature. Anthropocene, this disruption of the environment caused by human activities, is consumed more than ever. As an eye full of “Westernisms”, it is always tricky to fully appreciate non- Western works that are driven by other codes and mythologies. Nevertheless, we will let the works speak for themselves as much as possible around the concepts of Space-Time, Capsule, Interconnection, Commotion and New Order. 4
